Congratulations to all runners who did it tough competing at the Camp Mt Challenge last Sunday at Bellbird Grove, which incorporated the Queensland Mountain Running Championships.

It was a beautiful afternoon with perfect running conditions: the sun was out and the temperature was just right. The event featured races ranging from the 1km for the kids all the way to the 13.3km for Open runners, and the times across all events were extra speedy this year. In fact, even the last person over the line in the 13.3km was about 30 minutes faster than this position last year!

Aidan Hobbs was the Queensland Mountain Running Champion in the male category, running a very impressive 56:56 for the tough 13.3km course. The female winner, Joanna Hills, also ran an excellent time of 1:09:45. This was the first time that the Open Women’s race was 13.3km – in previous years the women ran 8.3km.

The Junior Champions over the 8.3km course were Jeremy Davis, who ran 40:27, and Kate Watson, who ran 42:40.

The Masters’ competitors all ran the 8.3km course, with the first male Masters’ Champions and runners up for the 35 – 44 years all coming in under 40 minutes.

This event would not have been possible without all the TRAQ and Qld Athletics volunteers who helped put together such a great event.

Our next TRAQ (Trail Running Association of Queensland) event is the Walkabout Creek Trails Race on Sunday the 8th of July at the Enoggera Reservoir. This event starts at the dam wall and finishes on the ‘beach’ at Walkabout Creek. See you there! Registrations for this event will open shortly. Please keep an eye out on the TRAQ website www.traq.org.au and Facebook Pages.
